Serpentine Meadow represents one of California’s most unusual and compelling terroirs, where ancient geological forces created a vineyard site unlike any other. This five-acre block is defined by fractured serpentine rock—solidified magma from deep within the earth that has been thrust to the surface over millions of years. Rich in magnesium and poor in nutrients, these serpentine soils create what viticulturists call “devigorating” conditions, naturally stressing the vines and forcing them to produce small, intensely concentrated berries.
Few grape varieties can thrive in serpentine soils, but Petite Sirah has found its perfect match in this challenging terroir. The lean, mineral-rich earth restricts vine growth while intensifying fruit character, producing grapes with exceptional color depth and concentrated flavors. Our 2022 Serpentine Meadow Petite Sirah embodies this unique geological story, offering bold blackberry character and polished tannins that reflect the ancient forces that shaped this remarkable vineyard site.
